Photo Essay: An African Safari in Namibia
You guys, Namibia. It is unlike any place I've ever traveled to. It's as if the landscapes of Planet of the Apes, Interstellar, and Mad Max all had a love child here. It's otherworldly, it's mystical, it's amazing. For no particular reason, Namibia had always been near the top of my travel to-do list. It had such an air of mystery about it, and I knew few people who had ever been. So on this latest trip to South Africa, my third, I was resolved to explore more of Southern Africa, since I hadn't explored beyond South Africa. Before I knew it, my go-to Africa travel expert, Simon Lewis, of Travel Concept Solution had hooked me up with Chameleon Safaris to host me around Namibia for a week. Just a few days after confirming my trip I was being whisked across Namibia with our guide, Gabriel ("Like the angel," he continued to remind us of), and a handful of others from around the world.
Our first stop: Namibia's Etosha National Park. There's really no reason why Etosha shouldn't be in the same conversation as epic Africa safari destinations like Kruger National Park in South Africa and the Serengeti in Tanzania (of which it's actually twice the size of the Serengeti). You may not see the "Big 5," but you'll see more wildlife then you can shake a stick at, and often feel like you have the entire park to yourself.
